Volcanoes National Park

“In the heart of Central Africa, so high up that you shiver more than you sweat, are great, old volcanoes towering up almost 15,000 feet, and nearly covered with rich, green rainforest - the Virungas".

That description of the location, given by the primatologist Dian Fossey, explains what to look forward to when planning a visit to the Volcanoes National Park.

Situated in the far northwest of Rwanda, the Volcanoes National Park protects the steep slopes of this magnificent mountain range - home of the rare mountain gorilla - and the rich mosaic of montane eco-systems, which embrace evergreen and  bamboo forest, open grassland, swamp and heath.

Singita Kwitonda Lodge

Set right on the edge of Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, where more than a third of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas find refuge, Singita Kwitonda Lodge’s unrivalled position puts lifechanging gorilla trekking experiences within easy reach. Each of the eight luxurious suites features a private heated plunge pool, wellness treatment area, in- and outdoor fireplaces and large timber-framed windows that welcome breathtaking scenery and volcano views inside.

Gorilla Trekking - Volcanoes National Park

Coming face to face with mountain gorillas is a rare and exhilarating wildlife encounter that is hard to capture in words. Experienced guides and trackers will accompany your party on an early morning trek into the dense rain forest on the steep mountain slopes.

Please note that gorilla trekking can be strenuous, with treks ranging from 45 mins up to eight hours, at high altitudes in often hot conditions. We do recommend hiring a local porter to assist you on your trek. Although mountain gorillas are wild animals and sightings cannot be guaranteed, viewing success rates are over 95%.

Once you have located a gorilla family, spend an hour quietly observing them. The time passes so quickly; be sure to enjoy this experience fully and not just through your camera lens.

Major tourist attractions are within close proximity to the hotel including the Nairobi National Park, the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust, famous for rehabilitating orphaned elephants, and the Giraffe Sanctuary. Angama Mara

Suspended in Mid-Air

The lodge’s remarkable setting overlooks what many safari travellers deem the finest game reserve on the continent, Kenya’s Maasai Mara. The Tented Suites stretch out over two kopjes on the edge of the escarpment. The third kopje is immediately recognisable as the site where many of the most memorable scenes from Out of Africa were filmed. Angama Mara’s architecture is filled with drama, the red brickwork inspired by local Maasai dwelling finishes.

Canvas and Glass

Guests are accommodated in spacious Tented Suites, which have been designed for guests’ comfort and are reminiscent of a classical African safari, each with a view as lovely as the next. Every detail has been considered: end-to-end glass frontage, sweeping canvas, decks overhanging the Mara and inside – polished parquet floors and just the right amount of furniture.

DAY 6:FULL DAY AT MAASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE

Enjoy exclusive full day game drives at the masai Mara as you spot mara's apex predators. You will get to spot different lion prides in the Mara such as the Topi pride and the Marsh pride.

Partnerships of two to four males are more successful at maintaining tenure with a pride than individuals, and they do not take trespassers lightly. They may give chase, or worse, kill them. If a new cohort of males is able to take over a pride, they will kill young cubs sired by their predecessors to further their own bloodlines. The strength and survival of a pride therefore lies in unity and cooperation as they collectively navigate the challenges of the wild.

Accomodation:Angama Mara

Meal plan:Breakfast,Lunch,Dinner

DAY 7:HOT-AIR BALLOON SAFARI & VISIT TO MASAI VILLAGE

The adventure begins just before dawn. Guests assemble at the launch site for a briefing as the flames from the hot air balloon burners light the darkness as the crews inflate their craft. As the dawn breaks the hot air balloon fills and then rises.

Suspended in a basket beneath the rainbow-coloured canopy, you’re off for a wildlife viewing adventure with an entirely different perspective. What amazes most first-time balloonists is the absolute stillness: the silence as you float above the plains, the forest and the rivers of the Masai Mara.If you think Africa is stunning on the ground, wait until you see its savannahs, rivers and forests from above. Nothing compares to gazing down upon a vast herd of wildebeests moving across the plains. Or a lion, cheetah or hyena lurking in the grass. You shift your gaze slightly to take in another vista where you spot a family of elephants lumbering toward a shimmering river.

After about an hour or so, your balloon safari finishes with a flourish. In the time-honoured tradition of balloon flights the world over, toast your return to earth with sparkling wine and enjoy a delicious breakfast that is set up and served at a very special spot. The experience ends with a game drive back to your camp.

After Lunch you will visit the maasai tribe to learn about their culture and way of life and also indulge in cutural dances.
